Born with solid black bodies. It is acceptable for black schnauzers to have some white on their chin, chest and/or tips of their toes. They have Black eyes, black pads and a black nose. Black schnauzers are born with solid black hair. Just like humans, most black schnauzer hair will lighten to a dark gray when they get older. It is acceptable for them to have white on their feet (which is often referred to as “boots”) or white on their chest (which is often referred to as a diamond) or a little bit of white on their chin.
Black & Silver

Born with solid black bodies and copper/bronze markings (which will turn a white) on their eyebrows, muzzle, inside the ears, across the chest, down the legs on the feet and underneath the tail. They have Black eyes, black pads and a black nose.
Liver & Tan (Chocolate & Tan)

Born with solid chocolate bodies and cream/tan markings on their eyebrows, muzzle, inside the ears, across the chest, down the legs on the feet and underneath the tail (similar to black and silver, just brown). They have Brown OR Green eyes, chocolate pads & a chocolate nose. Sometimes it is hard to tell what color they are when they are born but if you will look at the pads of their nose and feet you will be able to tell.
Salt & Pepper

Salt and Pepper Schnauzers are born with banded hairs and turn silver as adults. If you aren’t familiar with “banded hairs” that just means instead of each strain of their hair has 3 shades of color on it INSTEAD of just one solid color. Salt and Pepper Schnauzers vary in their birth color. They can be born so dark they look like black & silver schnauzers. These are called “Dark Salt & Peppers.” Yet on the other ends of the spectrum you have “Platinum Silvers” which are the lightest salt and pepper shade you can find. Most Salt & Pepper Schnauzers are often described by their owners as a silver or grey color. However, Platinum Silver Schnauzers appear white as adults. Please keep in mind that Platinum Silvers ARE Salt & Peppers, they are NOT White Schnauzers. White Schnauzers are BORN white and stay white. They are registered a completely different color.
Liver Pepper

Liver Pepper Schnauzers are in the “chocolate family.” They basically are a “chocolate version” of the salt and pepper. Liver Pepper Schnauzers are born the color of a brown paper bag with banded hairs and will lighten as they age. Because liver pepper schnauzers range drastically in their shade (lighter / darker) they won’t all look exactly the same as adults. Most (as adults) will appear like in varying shades of cream to white, some liver pepper schnauzers will even “platinum out” like a salt & pepper. This is when they lighten so much they appear almost white or off white as adults. Liver pepper schnauzers have brown or green eyes, chocolate nose and chocolate pads.

The word “liver” just means chocolate. So a “liver schnauzer” and a “chocolate schnauzer” are the same thing. Born with solid chocolate (liver) bodies. Some white on their chin, chest and / or tips of their toes is acceptable, and usually preferred. They have brown OR green eyes, chocolate pads and a chocolate nose.
Black & Silver Parti

Black & Silver Partis are born with all white bodies and have black spots/patches. They are also born with a bronze/copper on their cheeks, eyebrows, under their tail and inside their ears. This bronze/copper color will turn white. They have black eyes, black pads and a black nose.
Black & White Parti

Black & White Partis are also know as Black Partis. Born with white bodies and have spots/patches of black. Each Black Parti will vary in pattern. They have black eyes, black pads and a black nose.
Chocolate Parti

Liver & Tan Partis are born with all white bodies and have chocolate spots/patches. They are also born with a cream/tan markings on their cheeks, eyebrows, under their tail and inside their ears. This cream/tan markings will turn lighten into what appears light tan or almost white. So liver & tan Partis end up having bright white eyebrows and cheeks. They have brown OR green eyes, chocolate pads and a chocolate nose.
Salt & Pepper Parti
